The Costa Rican Esquinas Rainforest is an liveful ecosystem, but it's endangered! Costa Rica has the biggest biodiversity proportional to the land area of all countries on earth. In the Esquinas rainforest are 96 species of mammals (f.e.: jaguar, ocelot, racoon, skunk, squirrel monkey, coati and 53 species of bats), more than 362 birds (f.e.: white ibis, green heron, inca dove, turkey vulture, scarlet macaw, ruby-throated hummingbird, ...), 42 species of reptiles (f.e.: caiman, basilisk, iguana, anole lizard, dif. geckos, american crocodiles, boa constrictor, ferde-lance, coral snake, pit viper, vine snake and dif. turtles), 37 species of amphibians (f.e.: red-eyed leaf frog, different glassfrogs, dif. tree frogs, cane toad, dif. poison-arrow frogs, dif. salamanders and caecilians), hundreds of fishes and thousands of arthropodes and lower animals detected. Because of the yearly rainfall of 6000 mm per year, there are 700 different tree species and 120 endemic plants. In the Osa conservation area are 2709 species of plants detected. A part of the rainforest is the Nationalpark Piedras Blancas. But the other parts are owned by farmers. In this area the nature is not saved. So poachers, lumberjacks and gold washer destroy the rainforest and the farmers build there pureplantaions.
An austrian musician Michael Schnitzler saw this and decided to save the Esquinas Rainforest. So he created the Rainforest of the Austrians. Here you can spend some money to sav the Rainforest. 50 squaremetres cost 10€ or 15$.
Join this group if you want to save the Esquinas Rainforest. Or help to organize a fundraising project for it.
