"Youngest to sail solo non-stop unassisted around the World
Jessica Watson is setting out to become the youngest person to sail solo non-stop and unassisted around the World.
Since Joshua Slocum first sailed singlehanded around the world in the late 1890's, sailors of all nationalities and ages have been drawn to this ultimate challenge: The Everest of sailing.
Slocum's epic tale of his voyage, "Sailing Alone Round the World", has captivated a global audience of readers for over a hundred years.
Following on, record-breaking solo circumnavigations by heroes like Francis Chichester and Robin Knox-Johnston have captured the attention and the hearts of people all over the world.
Inspired in her turn by Kay Cottee, the first woman to sail solo non-stop unassisted around the world and by Jesse Martin, the youngest person to do so, Jessica Watson has set her sights on shattering Jesse's record.
In the process, Jessica hopes to inspire young sailors, adventurers and everyone with a dream in their heart."
I was amazed, when I read an article about her. It shows again, that young people can attract attention and they can use their attention to motivate other young people and to function as an ambassador!

I'm inpressed what they do, but I don't understand quite why it should be without a stop! When I would do it I would also take someone with me and I would stop all over the world, to explore the countries. Because if you're sailing nonstop, you may see the sea, but nothing of the countries you're passing! And you can't even jump into the sea for a swim!0 pointswindtank wrote 1056 Days Ago (neutral) 0She must be very determined and fearless - this is going to be a tough challenge! I definitely agree that those people who take the risk to fulfill their dreams, no matter how impossible these dreams might be, can lead the way for others, who are a bit less courageous or self-confident.
However, I think there's a small chance that this trip is all about breaking the record. I mean, if I ever did that I would definitely take someone with me.0 points
