“Totally fake!”
“Hello! Your report on someone lashing the monkey has been dissolved. We had sent the man away. Thanks for your support and advice.——Shenzhen Department of City Supervisor” Says the SMS I get in my mobile phone today.
“Totally fake!” I falls speechless towards such deceptive info.
Lash the monkey?!
Yes. That was what I witnessed yesterday on the street.
A man, or you call him a roaming performer, was lashing 3 rope-tied monkeys harshly, demanding them sit down, stand up, lie or jump. I could clearly hear the merciless whip wielding the ground, which constantly tortured my heart. Let alone those tender little monkeys! However, all the surrendering public audience kept laughing at this cruel funny show, including some primary school children who just finished school. Nobody paid a sip of sympathy or justice towards the little tortured and scared monkeys. What a hell!
Call the officer!
Can’t afford to let this continue, I made a call 110 to the police station. A woman answered me in an indifferent voice, saying that I should call 12315 to ask the City Supervisors. They were destined to manage what was on the street except crime. Hence, immediately, I called up the City Supervisor Department for officers coming. A man in the phone promised my request in a lethargic tone.
Dreading the monkeys’ situation, I chose to stay there waiting for the officers. 20min past, the show was enjoyed by even more coming people. A suspicion and distrust loomed large. I called up the City Supervisor Department again. A woman answered me that they had already another nearby inferior branch of the department to come. So why didn’t even a shadow of them appear in 15min? Another 20min past, still nobody came. My misgivings multiplied. I tried to call some newspaper offices too see if they would have a report on this, but they said only a leader could make a decision on it, which implied a prolonged procedure. In an hour, still no liable officer came, which reminded me of a sentence people always said “This is China.” Shame!
A few students around me were calling someone for help as well, such as the WWF in my city. Some others passing by spoke loudly ‘Stop abusing the monkeys, please!’ How lovely people! But the man just began another trick, with the public HAHAHA amused in a morbid entertainment. The poor monkeys attempted to escape by chance but failed with the strong rope tied around necks.
How stupid and impulsive I was!
Seeing that quite a few young children with their parents indulged themselves in this outrage, I dreaded to think what kind of person these little boys and girls would become in the future. A lady, to whom I asked bring her daughter away, just smiled lightly and went on observing the show. How can I disregard the cruelty like this? How can I ignore the indelibly negative influence?
I boost my courage, crying out to my ultimate volume on the scene,‘Public, please don’t see this cruel show any more. Parents bring your children home. There’s nothing worth laughing at! This is no funny! But a stained society!”
Then my eyes got blurred by tears. I could feel how stupid and impulsive I was!
People began to dismiss. Children went away with I don’t know if it’s fear. Adults went away. At last the cuckoo man with his monkeys went away. Some younger students came to me, saying that they were proud of me. I felt myself relieved and conscientious after all, but nearly collapsing at that moment.
I have watched that kind of cruel show before. That time, on a busy street, I called a police patrol nearby for help. But he said that he was innocent from that responsibility. Without know what to do, the 12 yrs I just got vexed and sighs all the way home. It has been 6 years since then.
I still can’t say I have done a good job today. Because the man must still roam in other places without caught and the destiny of the lovely little monkeys is still uncertain.
I hope people on the scene would get a bit inspired and a little self-introspected. There is no much big discrepancy between human and monkeys. We are equally living creature. Why couldn’t we share friendship together instead of ruling and hurting?
China
Maybe there’s a more complex social problem revealed in China.
·The administration and officers are backseat drivers, doing nearly nothing with tax paid.
My city, Shenzhen, is one of the most modern citied whose development could be compared to Beijing or Shanghai. If such problem could occur in such city like mine, let alone other cities or area in the rest of China. It only could be worse then.
The SMS I got above the next day is absolutely a trick. I was on the scene and it’s not anyone else driving the man away, especially any officers!
·The awareness and value conception of the general people. They beguile in such conduct. What else do you want from them?
·Why did the man earn money in this way? If it’s not because he’s got no other choice and the social security is a blank paper for the poor, then what? I dread to think that it could be a sin for me to obstruct his surviving skill. The monkeys themselves accept the torture at will and they even appreciate the man’s accompany.
You might find me a little cynical.
Come to China and you will get as confused as I all about this.
Youth
Luckily, there are a lot of youth who exhibit a strong sense of social responsibility and justice.
It’s always the youth who gives the society and world hope.
God blesses you and me.
