Some reflection of my vacation....
112 days ago 0 comments Categories: Holidays Tags: Travel

Now, I am enjoying my time in Boao, Hainan with my family. The sunshine is great and just now, I was, lying in the spring, enveloped by hundreds of fish. They are biting my skin!!!It was really itchy but also funny....Laughing

Anyway, that is not the core of this blog... I am just so shock to get the immediate experience about how serious corruption is in China.

A friend of our family serves in the Chinese central autrhority as a middle-level leader. But he was in charge of the appointment or dismissal of one huge Chinese State-owned Enterprise. By chance, he was also in Boao and we benefit the association with him, shortly experiencing the life as an official in China. You know what service he got from the CEO of that State-owned Enterprise? A free stay in the president suite, a five-star hotel. Alll free golf and massage service. And for  the meal, the CEO treats him and our family a huge banquet. But the food, though extremely delicate, only be tasted a few due to its number. The rest? Thrown away......

I was so shock to see the reality in China. The officials' consumption is unchecked. The expense is burdened on the tax payers, many of whom are even starving! Civil Servant---that is what we call them. But are they really servants or profit-seekers?

China's problem is that the power is on the hand of the minority and lack of a institutinalized system to check power abuse. Consequently, corruption is rampant...

Such situation must be changed. The country has the fertile ground for reform. The government also awares of the urgency. But how would it change? Will the corruption be cured or at least alleviated? I am worried.

That is might be one of the reason I choose to transfer my major to international politics. I want to contribute my own power to transform the corrupted bureaucracy...And I wish it were not too late.
