This blog is about South African Politics, I'm trying to make sense of it all, and writing is the only way I know how...

I'm probably one of the biggest Afro-optimists you'll meet, and I pride myself on that fact.  I love my country more than anything, and I want it to prosper and see our nation thriving.  Everyday, I try my utmost, to help South Africans, in any way possible...buying local, volunteering and giving change at every robot.  Seeing people having to beg for money, it breaks my heart, because I know what they can have if only someone stood up for them, someone gave them a voice.  Unfortunately, most of these people, are a result of the Apartheid years, as much as we want to deny it.  They have no education, they were brought up with the belief that they didn't belong, and that they had no choice in the matter.  It's one of the saddest realities we are faced with in our beautiful country.  And, yes, we are accountable for these people, it is our obligation to help them, not only from a political point of view, but mainly, from a moral point of view.

Having said that, I also believe, wholeheartedly, that we will never be tha nation we can be, if we can't move on from Apartheid.  Yes, it was horrible, and yes, it caused pain and suffering and it is something that should never have happened.  But, people forget that it almost didn't, the country (that is to say, the voting white public) were torn pretty much in half about Apartheid, and it only won by a very small margin.  I say this, not to make excuses, but to stress the fact that, well, all whites aren't racists.  And that is something that that most don't believe, or want to believe.  And it's tearing our country apart, in a scarily similar way as Apartheid.  But, that's a completely different debate, one for another day.

What I do want to write about is one man.  Julius Malema.  president of the ANC Youth League, he is a corrupting influence on the very youth he claims to represent.  Just uttering his name in most conversations, causes people to fly off the handle.  He is in a position af power...they say power corrupts, how true.  This man truly believes he is above the law, and that the world owes him something.

This man, who didn't even grow up in the Apartheid years, believes he is the sole reason for it ending.  ( He was born in 1981, negotiations to end Apartheid started in 1983 - he was 2 years old...some hero)  Today's paper is the reason for me writing this.  This man has thousands of Rands in traffic fines that he has failed to pay.  When confronted with this fact this was his answer:  "I only know revolution, I don't know anything about driving" (clearly!) "Let me tell you my friend, I have defeated you and your apartheid regime and I'm going to defeat you again, once and for all!  All of you combined, you can't do anything. You are wasting your time.  I am a child of heroes and heroines of the struggle. I am not a child of cowards and oppressors. I am not a child of an imperialist. I have defeated colonisers. I am going to defeat the children of the children of the colonisers."

Surely, this couldn't be a leading politician's answer, I mean, not only does it not even come close to answering the question, he is acting in the very way that he is falsely accusing the entire white public of acting.  He just assumes that this poor reporter was somehow linked to the start of Apartheid (which, by the way, was in 1958, so this 20-something reporter, caused that...?)  This reporter didn't act out of racism, he simply was researching a politician's failure to abide with the law (sounds like it runs in the ANC)  But Malema, who is sadly a very influencial man, has repeatedly planted the seed in millions' minds that, if anything happens to you that isn't particularly pleasant, it must be Apartheid's fault.  If you murder or rape someone, it not your own fault, you are not accountable...rather blame Apartheid.  And it's what millions truly believe...why would this nice man lie to them???

This man has blamed my generation for Aparheid.  How is that possible???  I wasn't even born yet, but not that I was suprised, I mean, this man can't really count.  He recieved a G-mark for maths in highschool...his best was Woodwork, a D-mark.  Some leader.  He couldn't even pass matric, but he somehow has the divine right, to condemn me?

He is a coward, and a liar and a corrupting influence on this country of my heart...my biggest hope is that he changes, that he realizes that he is a racist himself, and that we never deserved his critisism.  I pray he has a change of heart, because he is fast movng towards presidency, and if that happens...I shudder at the thought of President Malema.

I guess that I have seen, as much as you have, a lot of poverty, and together with this, a lot of stupid politicians and curruption. It makes me crazy. Here in Brazil the politicians confess that they are corrupt. Most part of them steals public money to their personal accounts, so they can buy trips to Europe, new cars, pay the expensive son´s school, while a huge part of the population is living literatly on the streets, begging for money, using drugs, and with no perpective of life. AND THESE MEN ARE CHOSEN AGAIN!!!
If a person has the courage and the cold heart to do something like that,I don´t think he´s going to change. But we can.
Why don´t you spread this article asmuch as you can?So people can hear some incovienient true?
Well, I just keep helping these people as much as possible. Maybe I can be the next president and change this situation..who knows??
