Fun with dolphins
·never mussel things again
What kind of animal is the most friendly one to human being ? For me, I will choose dogs and dolphins. But not all the dogs are kind, some are fierce indeed. In comparison, dolphins seem born to be kind even if we've never met before.
A diary that day

"There is no signal for telephone or internet where we are now, nor any other boats to be seen, so you can imagine how isolated we suddenly feel, here in the fiords of Southland.
Instead of human civilization we are surrounded by the most stunning nature and wildlife. As luck would have it, this morning, we came across an amazing sight, one of human's closest friends, the dolphin!
Late in the morning, around 10 AM, Pangaea arrived with full sail into the Dusky Sound. The weather was the best we had had so far. The sunshine was beaming down and flickering upon the sea and there was a gentle, cool breeze and thin clouds. During winter the South Island of New Zealand is seldom forecasted without rain or cold temperatures! Yes, don`t forget it is now winter in New Zealand and temperatures are often below 10°C.

All of the Young Explorers and Mike Horn Team came up on deck when we reached the middle of the sound. And there they were! At the beginning, there were just two or three dolphins playing in the distance, but as time passed little by little, more of them emerged from the deep sea and came closer to us, showing absolutely no fear! We could easily see their immense, smooth bodies through the clear sea! You cannot imagine how happy we were - what excitment!
Dolphins are very social mammals, as Dave, the Marine Biologist told us. We could see the mothers accompaning their calves and then later others would come and join the group.
The most important part of our scientific observation was to see whether they had nicks on their dorsal fin. Usually the nicks are bite marks made by the calves, with which the conservationists can identify them and count their numbers.
There is a saying that states, 'the more you see, the more you want to see', but instead of over-staying our welcome, we decided to leave and no disturb the dolphins any further. It's very important not to interefere and to leave nature as you find it. Afterall, we were just passers-by and had already experienced a very privileged moment!
Thing I thought when back
But in my school, Shenzhen Foreigh Languages School, you can always enjoy the scene that students play with wild mother cats and baby cats. And I even once saw a parturient mother cat crawled onto a sitting girl's laps for relieving pain. I remember that cats lay casually on the school streets for sunbath and a squad of birds fly low over them.
How nice!
But I disagree that many students like to share snacks with wild cats. Now they become large number and fat. We break the balance somehow though indeliberately.
The best way to human to treat the animals is to let they live their own life, they don't need your design.
At night,we shared the pics and videos of dolphins we took on the round table meeting. And we were gonna make a catalog of the bottlenose dolphin by ourselves.Image if years later we can still find the ones we met today!
One interesting thing we learnt about dolphins is how they sleep. Their heads are divided into two parts. They switch one on to help breath (human's breath is passive but dolphins have to make a breath proactively) and the other one sleeps.just one on, one off.,then exchange.Sophia said she willed to learn the habit between animals and people. Will we don't need sleeping one day like them?
One moving thing Dave told us is that dolphins are quite social animals,ie they have strong attachment to their family and friends. He once saw a mother dolphin carry a calf on its back onto the sea surface for 3 days. But the calf was dead! His mother might try her hard to see if he can breath again!
P.S. We throwed the mussel shells into the deep sea today, not shallow water because that will lower the impact shells have on the environment.Dave said the soil underwater would decompose them.
Take care of behavior.
Never mussel things again.
But you will never notice thet human years ago polished their weapons to the whales in this fjords.(For sure, they're killed in some other places now.)
Moose(a south african camerer) showed us the pics he took in Sourh Africa. There are hundreds of whales swimming just near the city ringe !!showing their tails!! Have you ever seen whales just through your windows??!! So amazing! And I remember the last day we left the fjords a whale was seen to our delight.
On 2009.4, I went to a seaside village in Hong Kong with my mum. We took a mosquito craft out to the sea. After long,a dolphin emerged, it was a little chinese white dolphin, springing up the sea surface like a pink pig then soon disapeared, never seen again to all our frustration.
And for building the 3 gorges dam in the Chang Jiang river( the longest river in China),the animal presevations are threatened and one particual dolphins which lived there have become a history, they are extinct.
How to build up the hamony between the animals and we human?
Funny that we named them and killed them like a arrogant destiny controller.
windtank wrote 951 Days Ago (neutral) 0This must have truly been an unforgettable experience! I loved that part about the Mom-dolphin which carried her dead baby, though it really made me sad... I wonder how some people still think animals don't experience love or firm relationships with others of their kin. It reminds me of the seahorses - if a mate of a seahorse dies, the seahorse dies as well - at least that's what I've heard.
Anyway... I don't know if there's anything more beautiful, amazing and eye-watering (I just thought up this adjective) than watching free animals in their unspoilt and "unusurped" environment. You've been blessed and may you keep on being such, and I hope for all the rest of us as well!0 pointsSharry wrote 951 Days Ago (neutral) 0WOW !!
